about mainstream_____

as i explained before, "mainstream" is the third episode of the third season of the animated series "x-men: evolution." i'm sure, if you're here, you've already heard of it. but just to give you a gist of what it is about-- after the events of the season finale, the x-men are finally faced with the idea of going back to school, where everybody will recognize them as mutants. all of them have doubts, except kurt, who was only sighted as the "fuzzy blue demon" and wouldn't be recognized with his image inducer. as expected, at school all the other kids seem to hate them or just take them as weird/different, but they prove their point by refraining from using their powers while at school. principal kelly asks the brotherhood to come back to school and raise trouble, and they join a mischievous duncan matthews to ambush the x-men during the meeting where the parents are going to decide the fate of the mutants in regard to their education. so, while jean is giving the parents an encouraging speech, the others are outside fighting. in the end they save many people with their powers, even kurt, who decides it is better to reveal his powers if that means he can help and be with his friends. BTW, while all of this is happening, wolverine is fighting-- when isn't he?-- against colossus, and during the fight we learn that maybe piotr isn't as bad as we thought he was.

why mainstream?_____

i've been a fan of the original x-men since the comics, and i think the biggest appeal of this series is something more than the fighting, the powers, the romance, or the whole good-vs-evil thing-- it's what it teaches us: that no matter how different anyone is, they're still human and as such we have to respect them. and i think, out of all the chapters of evolution, this is the one that better embodies this ideal, without giving up the spirit of evolution, which was to bring the original x-men characters to their teenage years-- and high-school rejection is the absolute perfect way to accomplish these two things. this episode has a bit of everything: action, romance, drama, intrigue. jean's perfection is finally useful for something ^^;;; we finally see the true side of principal kelly, stupid duncan is taken down by three girls, and kurt agonizes over his being blue! and-- why hide it?-- i'm a huge kurtty fan and i love the interaction kurt & kitty have in this episode, it shows they're great friends ^.^ ok, ok, i'm sure most of you don't want to hear about that... moving on...

about the fanlistings______

a fanlisting is, as described by its creator, janine, a "a place for all fans of a particular show, movie, actor/actress, singer, etc. to come together and build the biggest listing of people from all around the world who are fans of that subject." in this case, it's a list of fans of "mainstream". for more information, just visit the website ^^

about "one step at a time"_____

the site was created by carla, and is part of the mighty network (*nudgenudge* please visit! ^.~ *nudgenudge*). it's done in tables, and should work in any resolution. the images i used for the layout were capped by myself so please don't take the main image. the brushes used are from 1greeneye.net. the title comes from the episode itself, it's kurt's response when kitty asks him, near the end, if he wants to reveal his true image to everybody.
